I thought that if i let anyone in, they’d find out what was broken about me. And then not only would they know, i’d know too.

The Summer I Turned Pretty

The Summer I Turned Pretty

I haven’t been sucked in to a teen TV show in a binge watch kind of way in a while, but that all changed when Macy told me about The Summer I Turned Pretty.

The episodes on Amazon Prime flew by so quickly that I can’t believe I have to wait so long for season 2 — which I’m glad we’re even going to get.

I had read and watched all of Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. So I shouldn’t have been surprised that I enjoyed this one. And yes, I started out really liking the young fun brother (kudos for making him bisexual), you know moody older brother wins me in the end. And Belly is an incredibly lucky lead to have all this adoration thrown at her.

I also really enjoyed the moms friendship and their storyline even if the sickness is clearly a downer. And let’s not even get into that killer soundtrack that had me listening to it on repeat for weeks after.

This is why I was disappointed with the actual books. Maybe I’m No longer the target market for this kind of thing, but it made me feel sad that it just got progressively not great.

The entire second book was weird with the mixed points of view. And then I thought book three with be other brother POV too but instead we get wedding planning that really had zero value add.

I was just hating everyone by the end of it. I know Jenny Han will pull through and the show has to be better than the next two books, so I’m crossing my fingers so hard. And with this fam being broken, I’m now back to reading fluffy books so in a way I’m glad this broke the seal.
