I thought that if i let anyone in, they’d find out what was broken about me. And then not only would they know, i’d know too.

Drive to Survive (Season 4)

I’ve been invested in Drive to Survive about as much as I am with the Formula 1 Season and this year’s season 4 offering clearly has a crazy high stakes given the happenings of the 2021 F1 season. And I’m glad Netflix is covering this like drama of a Real Housewives show because that is the level of petty and editing it deserves.

Clearly as you look back at how Max Verstappen got the Championship, it’s a bit bananas of how it’s all turned out and in the rearview mirror with Michael Massi getting the boot, it all feels a bit weird. On top of that, the fact that we don’t get any Max interviews feels even more weird. Instead we get a lot of Christian Horner vs Toto Wolff (which I’m really not complaining about).

Still, F1 always manages to not cover something or over-cover a nothing. Still, the biggest achievement of the season is how it made me sympathise with Lewis Hamilton. I’ve always found him to be a tad arrogant, and yes, he’s talented and possibly the GOAT of the sport but I’m always rooting for an underdog and honestly, this season and the way it’s been portrayed really. made me feel for him.

I’m also glad we get way more Checo and Carlos than we used to (I love a great teammate). I won’t call them second drivers even if they technically are because they’re such team players. I do feel for Daniel Ricciardo and wish he had a lot more screen time and points to be honest, but I do like how Lando addressed the “we’re not necessarily best of mates” just because the media narrative thinks they’re similar.

The entire Bottas-Russell drama was harsh to watch just because I want this for George but really feel bad for Valterri. Ahh well. One can’t win it all. So really, though I was happy for a new Champion in the end, Max isn’t exactly the most verbose or most fun to cover, so I’m glad we got all the other drama and really just makes me excited for the season.
