I thought that if i let anyone in, they’d find out what was broken about me. And then not only would they know, i’d know too.

I Can’t See Myself Without You

I Can’t See Myself Without You

At the end of every year, my brother asks us to send him our favorite albums/songs of the year and we’ve kind of made at tradition out of it. It’s always fun to start the year and get excited about all the new music and figure out which ones make it to the elusive top 10. This year had a year of surprise drops and fun times despite isolation so there hasn’t been a lack of music, for me.

Albums

10. Plastic Hearts by Miley Cyrus [Bad Karma feat. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts]
This was a late comer in the album category and I’m not sure I’ve ever had a Miley album but she’s really embraced this sound of hers and I’m all for it. Plus this song really just gives you very Runaways vibes which I really did love.

9. THE ALBUM by BLACKPINK [Ice Cream with Selena Gomez]
So we know I went down the BLACKPINK blackhole thanks to the Netflix documentary but this song kind of pre-dated that and I honestly haven’t stopped singing this song and watching all the freaking practice videos of them dancing. I cannot keep up and I love it.

8. folklore & evermore by Taylor Swift [august]
I did enjoy these albums, probably less than everyone else. I guess I’m a pop!Taylor fan? These were incredibly poignant and good to work to though, because I don’t find myself singing at the top of my lungs and therefore distracted. I’m sure this will grow on me.

7. Positions by Ariana Grande [34+35]
Ariana just knows how to deliver the bops and this is no different. Honestly, I don’t know how she churns these year after year because they are incredible. I have yet to see the Netflix concert documentary but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.

6. Patience by Sondre Lerche [I Can't See Myself Without You]
The family pick! Thanks to my brother Pietro for introducing him to us pre-Faces Down and we’ve just followed him ever since. This album is fun Sondre and I like it cause weven when he’s pining, it’s a good thing.

5. To Let a Good Thing Die by Bruno Major [Regent's Park]
A “surprise” drop at the earlier part of the lockdown and I kind of went this over and over. Also an introduction from my brother Pio and I’ve not looked back ever since. Soothing, sad and just forlorn, I like it.

4. This Summer: Live Off the Floor by Alessia Cara [Rooting For You]
I loved this EP and can’t believe we get a fuller, acoustic version of it — so I’m going to abuse this and just include it! I wish she’d release a full-length album again cause I’ll probably/definitely enjoy that.

3. Dedicated Side B by Carly Rae Jepsen [Felt This Way]
Carly bringing the side-b’s forever and she’s just got all that material that I’m glad she’s decided to release. If only there was travel this year, this would definitely be the soundtrack of the trip because fun bops are fun for walking in foreign countries.

2. Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa [Break My Heart]
If my brother didn’t exist (he does), then this would have topped the charts for the year. Dua Lipa is a disco diva I didn’t think I needed and I’m here for it. From the beats to her looks to the videos, it’s a complete package and the British speaking accent doens’t hurt.

1. On My Way To Okay Part 1 & Part 2 by Pietro Lazatin [Waves of Letting Go]
Obviously my brother was toping this list no matter what I did or who made music. And it’s not even a bias thing (it is, partially) but he always does get to the bottom of my feelings and makes it palatable for humanity. Yes to more creative outlets for feelings.

And because why not, the songs that were on repeat but I’ve probably mentioned these at one point during the year.

Songs

10. WAP — Cardi B (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)
9. Be Kind — Marshmello (with Halsey)
8. Ain't Together — King Princess
7. Chew On My Heart — James Bay
6. Slow Grenade — Ellie Goulding, Lauv
5. Daydream — The Aces
4. Let's Fall In Love For the Night — FINNEAS
3. Same — Josie Dunn
2. Easy — Troye Sivan
1. Are We a Thing — Leidi
