I thought that if i let anyone in, they’d find out what was broken about me. And then not only would they know, i’d know too.

How insane is it that May is done (again) and now we’re on the last month of Q2. Looking back. I feel like the year just started and now, we’re almost halfway there. I guess this is what being old means. Still, May was a pretty lovely mix of hermit-life and being selectively social because why not. I’m liking this new feel. May it last as long as it can.

Loving

  • Keanu Reeves has taken up a lot of my time. I didn’t even expect it to happen, not with John Wick Chapter 3 coming out this month but it took me by surprise. So much so that I’ve re-watched a bunch of my favourite movies of his — and I got my friends (from our future media empire) to indulge me on this blackhole that I’ve been in the entire month. I have no regrets, guys.

  • And because apparently it’s Asian Pacific American Appreciation Month (I didn’t even know it was a thing), why not roll out more Asian representation with Always Be My Maybe which was all sorts of adorable. It’s so strange (but a welcome strange) to see Asians (a lot of them) in romcoms. Let this continue. Ali Wong and Randall Park were so cute in it and it’s just nice to see other stories on the screen. Yes, Keanu didn’t hurt either.

  • Carly Rae Jepsen’s album is here. I never thought this day would come, but it has arrived. It’s still growing on me and there are a lot of bops so all is well in my world. Too Much and Everything He Needs are standouts apart from all the singles she’s already released (Julien, No Drug Like Me, Now That I Found You and Party Of One) and just because it comes right after, The Sound and Automatically in Love are climbing up my faves list. I like how it sounds familiar but different.

  • I don’t usually include food or restaurants here, because I’m pretty easy to please, but I do love me some Panamericana. This brunch spot in Sentosa never keeps me there for just brunch time. The first time I was there (almost a year ago now), I was there for something close to 8 hours and this time around, it was 5 and a half. I guess apart from the great food and amazing drinks the company was pretty awesome. For an island that’s pretty tiny, there are always these lovely gems that make you feel you’re not quite in the city.

  • Tottenham going to the CL Finals. I haven’t been a big football fan — nor am I still but that World Cup introduction really made me dive head first into this wonderful world of handsome men with lovely backsides and it’s been crazy that the team I happened to support is going all the way to the Champions League finals. Thanks to my cousin’s influence I’m now awake at 3am waking up my roomie with my last minute screaming — cause that was a crazy semifinals versus AJAX. Nevertheless, we’re heading to Madrid — not physically but still. I’m still in shock. But more on this later.

Working On

  • Those goddamn Duolingo Leaderboards. Apart from the freaking streak they’ve got me obsessed over — now they want me to top these leaderboards, too. Sure, I get competitive with virtual strangers who are all just trying to learn a language but it’s tough especially when the leaderboard timing ends when it’s barely 8am on a Monday morning and the hard worked gap you built up over the evening gets decreased while you were sleeping. Duo sure knows how to get folks violent.

  • Growing out my hair. It’s only been 1 month since my ‘last haircut’ and holy cow, I don’t know how I’m going to last this long. Sure I’ve grown my hair out before but it never felt this excruciating. I don’t know how much longer I can last in this waiting game or if I’ll even pursue it but so far, one month in, I am itching to cut it again. Patience was never my strong virtue.

  • Saying goodbye to friends. I found out late in the month that the last of a crew I used to hang out a lot with are leaving Singapore for Zurich. Sayaka and Rokas left for Ho Chi Minh a couple years back, then Adoni for London and now Becky and Kaulin are off to Europe. I’m pretty bummed about it even if we haven’t hung out as much as we used to back then, but I guess that’s the nature of Singapore — transient for most.

Anticipating

  • As mentioned earlier, I can’t believe the team that I randomly chose to support (not so randomly, really) are going to the Champions League finals. And sure, it’ll air here at 3am on a Sunday morning but it should be fun! Do I wish I were with Acid and Toby (my sports parents) as we watched this? Sure, but I’ll have fellow Spurs fan, Suren with me (and maybe some Liverpool lovers) so that should be fun! Here we go, come on you spurs!

  • As you know I’ve gotten a bit into the Hallmark Cinematic Universe and June means June Weddings. These are usually the most horrible of the Hallmark bunch but they’re always so fun to watch because who doesn’t want a wedding movie. I know I do. And so I cannot wait for the cheese to wash over me — even if I will complain about it a lot.

Keep It

Apathy towards politics = not voting in elections. I’ve been glad and blessed that I’ve been able to vote from overseas, but the results — always leave me sad and frustrated. Even more so, when friends that I thought were like minded or have family back home didn’t even bother to vote. I get how it seems hopeless most of the time, but I say, don’t complain if you don’t vote so please vote.

Video on Repeat

And because I don’t want to end on a bad note, here is Keanu Reeves telling Ellen DeGeneres he didn’t make a move on Sandra Bullock because they’re dating. I have watched this video TOO MANY TIMES this month. It’s not even funny. This and a video of my nephew dancing like there’s no tomorrow, but that isn’t on Youtube. hit me up if you want to see the latter.
